This application is for a scholarship in the amount of up to $1000 to assist in the pursuit of higher education in a horticulture related course of study. Please mail this application and all required attachments to Jed Bryan, Scholarship Committee Chairman, 1219 Bridge Knot Court, Rock Hill, SC 29732 Entry must be postmarked no later than May 1, 2019.


The candidate must be a graduating senior, a resident of Chester, Lancaster, or York Counties, and must intend to pursue higher education in horticulture, agriculture, landscape design,turf management, forestry, botany, greenhouse management, land management or a related field.

Recommendation Letters:

Please provide two letters of recommendation. One must be from a teacher at your high school or technical school and the other from a non-related mentor (example: counselor, minister, employer, scout leader), preferably on their letterhead if available.

Be sure to include in your packet this application with any attached documents, the essay, transcript, and the two recommendation letters. The information in this application will be used solely for the purpose of selection and will not be shared with any other group or organization

The Master Gardeners of York County have established the Lannie Love Education Scholarship for students from the counties of Chester, Lancaster, and York who wish to pursue higher education in one of the following or related fields:
  • Horticulture
  • Agriculture
  • Landscape Design
  • Turf Management
  • Forestry
  • Botany
  • Greenhouse Management
  • Land Management
  • Environmental Science with a plant based focus
Mrs. Love was a retired reading educator and an avid gardener, and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge in both fields. We believe this is a fitting tribute to her life. This scholarship was established in 2013.

We will accept applications for consideration. Awards will be made to successful candidates in the amount of $1000,  The requirements for this scholarship are listed on the application form.

This is application to be printed and completed in legible cursive or printed handwriting using black ink. Attachments to the application and the essay should be typed and printed out. Hard copies of the application and all required documents must be mailed to the address listed on the application and postmarked on or before May 1, 2019.

About Mrs. Love:

Mrs. Love was born in Greensboro, NC to the late Marie Langley and Charles Robert Reynolds. She graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in Education and completed her Master of Education degree at Georgia State University. Her career in education began as a teacher in Norfolk, VA and during her thirty year career she served in various teaching and administrative positions. She was a reading consultant for the South Carolina Department of Education and retired from the Clover School District.

She was past President of the South Carolina Chapter of the International Reading Association and was active in the York County Master Gardeners Association and recently served in several leadership positions. She enjoyed participating in the Haven Sunday School Class and the Handmadens Stitchery group.
